Importing a WordPress site in minutes

Bring posts, pages, categories, tags and images over from WordPress with a dry run first, so you see exactly what will change before anything is written.

Moving off WordPress usually means weeks of copy and paste. ATLAS reads the standard WordPress export file and brings the content over for you.

1. Export from WordPress

In WordPress, go to Tools, Export and download the export file. ATLAS reads WXR versions 1.0 to 1.2.

2. Run a dry run

In the ATLAS dashboard, open Tools, Import, choose WordPress and upload the file with dry run on. The report shows what would be created and updated, with nothing written yet. Fix anything surprising and run it again.

3. Import for real

Pick the options and start the import:

  • Status: keep the WordPress status, or bring everything in as drafts or as published. Private posts always stay drafts, and a member without the publisher role never publishes.
  • Download images: attachments and images used in the content are downloaded into the brand's media library, keep their alt text, and old upload URLs redirect to the new files.

Links between your own pages become relative paths, so they keep working on the new domain.

Run it again whenever you like

Entries remember the WordPress post they came from. A second import updates posts that changed and leaves the rest alone, which makes a gradual move easy: keep writing in WordPress until launch day, then import one last time.
