Agencies and groups often run brands that share a structure but not a look. In ATLAS a theme is the shared structure, and everything that makes a brand feel like itself stays with the brand.
What lives in the theme
- Templates such as the front page, a page, a single post and the 404 page, each a list of blocks.
- Parts such as the header and footer.
- Blocks with their schema, so the dashboard knows which fields to show.
What lives with each brand
- Design tokens: colours, fonts and radius, with a dark mode set.
- Theme options, saved as a draft and published when ready.
- Template overrides: a brand can edit a template without touching the theme package, and reset it to the package version later.
Try before you switch
Switching themes is a big change, so it comes with two safety nets. A switch check lists what would not carry over, such as menus nested deeper than the new theme allows. A preview draft renders the candidate theme for preview tokens only, so the team can walk the real site in the new theme while visitors keep the old one.
When the brand is happy, it activates the theme. One theme update then reaches every brand that runs it.
